Amidst Edinburgh’s diverse array of pubs, wine bars and cafes, The Wash Bar has carved out a niche for itself in the heart of the Old Town. The good atmosphere and striking aesthetics of this independently-owned pub have made it a firm favourite with anyone who fancies a bite to eat in a relaxed environment. Leisurely lunches as well as brisker business affairs are served up here, accompanied by a glass of wine or possibly just a coffee for those who are still in working mode. The tastefully-appointed bar is kitted out with contemporary gas-lift stools and simple wooden tables that contrast nicely with the luxurious wallpaper. A popular spot with shoppers in need of sustenance, and indeed anyone in need of a good square meal, The Wash offers an unpretentious menu that satisfies stomachs without emptying wallets. The home-made burgers are probably the best place to start, though the stonebaked pizzas are also pretty good, it must be said. Then there are the sharing platters, ideal for those who enjoy leisurely demolishing their food while catching up on gossip with old friends.

Found this place by accident (had intended to go to Makars on the Mound, but they were full)!!, The Wash is next door and as we were going to Makars for haggis and mash, we were pleasantly surprised to find it on the Wash’s menu. I must say the Haggis was brilliant, served with mash and lovely peppery rich gravy.
